In his blog, Atlantis co-showrunner Joe Mallozzi has written a poem in which he hints at what happens in the second half of Season 3 and what is coming in Season 4. This stanza may hint at a return of Carson Beckett:
From innocents lost he’ll produce strict adherence
While the late fallen one makes a surprised reappearance
We can’t know yet if the second line refers to Carson, but we can hope! However, it’s important to remember that, at most, this hints at a reappearance and not a full-time return, which remains our goal. Still, it might be an acknowledgement that fan response is being heard in Vancouver!
My fave character,He always has a valid input and has a big heart! it will gbe so weird to watch it without him!
Maybe Ford coming back briefly? Right, not necessarily Beckett.
I love Carson!! If he can’t stay on the show please let him be a recurring character, that’s all I ask!!
I really hope that he speaks of Carson and that it will be a “real” return, not something like Rainbow got as Aiden. I want Carson back for many more episodes then only for those some like we saw Aiden again in. If they don’t want Paul as maincast any longer, I still hope, they will let him return as a recurring again like in Season 1.
i find it a very bad idée. Dr. Carson is a headcaracter. he’s part of John sheppard’s team and very useful as wel. he’s also nesesary to the serie because of his accent and he always has a valid word and a big heart what make the serie so ecsiting. (sorry for my english but it’s not my best language)
Carson is the best! i want him back full time! at the absolute LEAST back as a recurring.
I don’t know but I really HOPE that this means Carson. That would be so great. He really contributes much to the show and losing him would be a great loss, I’m afraid.
Oh, PLEASE let this mean that Carson’s coming back !
The powers that be must surely know by now how popular he is, and how badly the fanbase has reacted to their decision to write him out.
Paul McGillion belongs on Atlantis. It’s his ‘everyman’ link with the show’s audience which has made him so popular.
So please, TPTB, make this return, if that’s what it is, a permanent one.
Thank you
Ann
You say this hints at a reappearance and not a full time return, but what if he is like Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1? He reappeared, didn’t he?
I don’t want Mallozzi’s cryptic poems. It’s really annoying to be played with like fan-toys and I’m not bothering with trying to read between the lines. I would just like some straight, respectful answers as to why a character who was promoted has now been tossed away. I have little faith that TPTB will bring Beckett back and if they do it’ll be like they did with Ford then forever gone.
They have cut out the heart of SGA. It’s good there are other things to watch.
I watched the Sunday episode yesterday…i still cannot believe he’s gone! I don’t even feel like watching the rest of the season without him!!!! This is heartbreaking! I think I would’ve been less sad if they had killed Teyla or Ronon (that’s how much I loved him!!)…Anyway what will the Atlantis crew do without him?? They’ll all DIE!!
They’d BETTER make him reappear!!
Don’t worry, it’ll be easy to bring back Carson Beckett one way or another. Heck, you don’t even have to go far to find ways to do it — just look at Star Trek. They re-grew Spock using the Genesis device, and when they couldn’t do that with Harry Kim, they simply plucked a replacement out of a parallel universe. Now where can we find a parallel universe…
I was sad to see Carson Beckett die, but I was also glad to see that the writers actually had the ‘nads to kill off one of their mainstream characters. To be perfectly honest, folks, I think the writers rely on the crutches of time travel and the multiverse way too much these days. For things that are supposed to be extremely difficult to pull off, the SG characters seem to be able to do it quite handily when more advanced races can’t.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the series, but I’d like to see the writers stretch their imaginations a bit further lest the Stargate franchise truly turns into Wormhole Extreme.
Hate how american writers are so trigger happy, they think killing off genuinly great characters is what people want, People dont want to see their fave’s die. Ok maybe in the finale you’d expect it but not in a late season episode like this. I only hope they can hang a pretty convincing lantern over it and bring him back properly (ie time travel - we know it can be done) or at least say “we messed up and were sorry for assuming we know whats good TV” a-holes SAVE CARSON!!!!
And we keep driving to the light!!!!
To restore what’s right!!!!
To restore what’s right!!!!

I, don’t know if I wil watch anymore. first aidenand now carson. What purpose does ronan serve. and why not let lorn and dr. weir hook up
aiden isnt known to be dead is he?
i know the hive ship blew up but that might mean he is the one in the lyrics maybe
I would like to see some episodes where he “team” would go to a planet that Carson saved some lives or cured some kids and the “team” would check up on their friends and let them know of Carson’s fate then they can have these friends share memories with the “team” This would bring back our favourite character - even for a little while
Please bring him back. The episodes won’t be the same without him. He’s the heart of the med team and an important member of Sheppard’s team.
It always SUCKS to lose the characters that you invested so much time and emotion into. But think about it from a scriptwrtiting sense, without jeopardy the show gets boring. The best way to create jeopardy is to kill off a character that everyone thought was untouchable. That shocks audiences and makes them think that none of their characters are safe when they face mortal peril. You will prolly find that every now and then they will bring Back Carson in some kind of time travel, flashback or alternate reality story and you will love those episodes so much. Just like how you love the episodes when Jack’s Back, or when you saw Daniel in S6. This is painful, but this is not the end of the world. But one thing i will agree on, i do think that perhaps it was a little premature, the show wasn’t exactly getting boring.
